Reaction to FCB v Freiburg
Kovac: Should have protected our lead
FC Bayern failed to take another three points after four victories in a row, sharing the spoils with SC Freiburg on Saturday. The hard-fought match ended in a 1-1 draw, the Breisgau club taking a point at the Allianz Arena for the very first time. The Bavarians were annoyed at the late equaliser: "We as FC Bayern mustn't squander the lead," declared Niko Kovac.
Reaction to Bayern v Freiburg
Niko Kovac: "We got off to a good start, we were very flexible, moved well and let the ball do the work. We tried to attack down the wings, but it was difficult because they doubled up on us. So we had to try it down the centre, which wasn't exactly empty either. We should have scored the opener through Lewandowski, it would have been much easier then. We piled forward in the second half. We took the lead, and we as FC Bayern mustn't squander that. We have to clear the ball earlier instead of playing the ball at the back. But it is as it is. It was in the 89th minute against Augsburg too, so we're talking about four points. We're disappointed."
Manuel Neuer: "We didn't shine in the last few weeks so we couldn't play with ease today, that's clear. We still had periods when we did a really good job. The question is why we can't keep it up. Mistakes happen, but it's a bit worrying that there's a twist in a match like this."
Serge Gnabry: "Freiburg didn't do a bad job at times, they had lots of men behind the ball. We put them under a lot of pressure, we had plenty of set-pieces, we took a lot of corners. But we have to make more out of it."
Christian Streich (SC Freiburg coach): "We decided to lie deep against Bayern, because many of our players had knocks, and we had the trip to Kiel in midweek. We didn't get off to a good start and struggled with Bayern's counterpressing. But we didn't concede a goal at that stage and improved. We defended well and had the bit of luck you need towards the end. I have to say it's extremely difficult for Bayern when a team defend like we did. Our boys run like crazy, so it's not easy to play against us."
